LYNN BARR
DANCE
THEATRE was founded in 1988,
when she presented full evening productions
of “THE WOMEN” at McKenna Theatre, New Paltz, Maureen Stapleton
Theatre, Troy,
N.Y., Albany State Museum for the Women In the Arts Festival, to much
acclaim.
She then began teaching primarily in Europe, was a guest instructor in
Berlin,
Weimar, Germany, Poznan, Poland, Prague, Czech Republic and most
recently
Belgrade, Serbia. Lynn Barr has presented her work in piazzas and
theatres in
Italy, in front of bombed out buildings in Serbia, on the river Vlatava
in
Prague, at the Museum of Czech Music in Prague, and at the Chamber
Music
Festival in Cesky Krumlov, in Bohemia. After 16 years of teaching and
presenting work in Europe she decided to work at home with her newly
formed
company performing at Cunningham Studio, New Dance Group Studio
Theatre, and at
St. Mark’s Church. Lynn Barr Dance is a company, which includes
dancers,
classical musicians, actors, visual artists, and fashion designers. She
addresses serious questions both political and social. Her mission is
to pose
these serious questions using the dance idiom in a visually stimulating
and
arresting way. Lynn Barr Dance Theatre returns to continue to disturb
and
provoke dance and theatre audiences here in America.
Lynn
Barr began her dance career with the Paul Sanasardo-Donya Feuer Dance
Company.
She was a soloist with the Philadelphia Lyric Opera Co. and with the
New York
City Opera Co. at Lincoln Center. After many other dance engagements,
she
returned to dance with the Paul Sanasardo Dance Company in New York.
Forming
her own company in 1988, she toured with her evening length productions
of
"The Women", and" Mystos". She has been the artistic
director of the State University of New York at New Paltz Dance
Programs abroad
for 14 years in Italy and in Prague, Czech Republic. Ms. Barr has also
taught
in Berlin, and was invited to teach for the Tanztheater von Ismael Ivo
at the
Deutsches National Theatre in Weimar, Germany. She was guest teacher
for the
Polish Dance Theatre in Poznan, Poland; Pesaro, Ancona and Urbino,
Italy. She
was invited by the American Embassy in Belgrade, Serbia to teach and
choreograph. After successful performances in Belgrade the works were
shown
again in Grenoble, France. Ms. Barr was recently seen in a film
entitled
Tanzrebellen, ”Rebels of The Dance” shown on ARTE (the PBS of
German/French
T.V.) Segments of Il Circo Della Vita
were featured. After much traveling and working in Europe, she
returned
to work
with her newly formed company in New York. Ms. Barr was
recently featured in a film by
Ralph Strohle entitled "Tanzrebellen" or Rebels Of The Dance. Among
the choreographers were Donald McKayle, Sophie Maslow, and Eve Gentry.
It was
shown on "ARTE" (the PBS of Europe) on German and French T.V. Two additional films by RaLPH STROHLE, where
her work was featured were 'DANCING AGAINST THE GREAT DEPRESSION' and
